JadeDragon's reviews and playing tips: Palm OS games

BeBop, by Dejobaan $14.95
Reviewed April 2002

If you ever want to have a family or if you have a family, you should really check out this game. BeBop, developed by Dejobaan, is a game where you build a virtual family whom you have to feed, entertain, clean, socialize in order to improve their training. It has some RPG elements: the goal of the game is to train the BeBop family to the highest levels (11) in all 3 aspects, Mind, Fitness and Charm. But you must keep everyone in the family happy in order for them to be willing and able to partake in training. When you play this game, you'll feel like a parent (feeding the family, keeping the towels clean, cheering them on when they compete), and a boss (making them train, dealing with their whining). The speed of the game isn't fast; rather it's like a long novel that will keep you coming back. You'll do things like buy food, toys, bedding, training equipment; assign activities to everyone in the family; invite visitors and keep them entertained; and enter family members into contests where you'll cheer them on when they compete for money. This game is suited for all ages.

Playing Hints and Tips

First, start with even number of people in the family, like two or four. Since the BeBops need to socialize and to have fun, it's good to have two of them to participate in some activities on the same schedule.

Second, you need to keep an eye on their fun level, nutrition level, and rest level at all times. If you don't, they'll become unhappy and then they'll just eat or collapse or play without you telling them to do so. Don't let them get too miserable, because they'll just go out on their own in desperation, and they don't always pick the perfect things to do.

Graphics The graphics are not the most glorious. But the cute character animations work for this game perfectly
Sound Cute sound effects like doorbell rings, message box alert, etc.
Fun Meter This game has a very creative concept. It will keep you busy with the character's needs and their long training levels. For a game that doesn't seem to have a lot of action, you really can't take your eyes off of them for a second.
Addictivity It surprised me how addicted I became to this game. This game keeps you wondering what the BeBop family is up to now.
