Anyone who has played Fade will know the “Exit” nightclub,
but this time you won’t find that strange underground
community. Exit has entered our gaming world once again with
a changed business: card games. Developed by the Fade Team
and published by iambic, Exit Nights is a futuristic card
game that you will play in a trendy, racy nightclub where
the cards are only familiar to those who are computer and
gadget savvy.
Fade vets will notice familiar sights:
the bouncer outside of the club, the same women and bartender,
and even the Hell’s Gate that led to the cult leader
in Fade. But through the same door in Exit Nights, you will
meet the ultimate card player after you have collected all
the cards. Exit Nights invented a new card game, in which
all the cards have certain power values and you can only
win with the strongest hands. There are tutorials throughout
the game as you go through each section for the first time,
to introduce the concepts of the game. You must earn your
rankings by beating countless players in Instant Play, Member
and Elite playing mode. Each time you win a game, you will
gain a card from your opponent’s collection. There
is also a Card Shop where you can purchase cards, but you
only have limited funds and there are hundreds of cards you
will need to collect.
Not only is the card game concept new,
but also the cards are rather unusual. Apparently in the
future world, instead of getting Aces or Jacks, you will
get Wi-Fi Oven cards or Can Opener GSM phone cards. The high-tech
theme in these cards is fun and creative enough that you
might just believe you could see these gadgets in the not
very distant future. The highly stylish graphics and polished
interface are beautifully crafted, which will remind you
of the talent which shone through in Fade. Exit Nights is
only tarnished by the unbelievable number of grammar and
spelling mistakes found throughout the game.
While the playing cards make you feel like
you’re in the future, the music and the nightclub environment
will bring you immediately back to the 1960s. The colorful
disco lights accompanied by the groovy music create a different
world from the card game and provide some relaxing moments
between the intense competitions.
Just as in Fade, almost the entire
game is played with the stylus and you can turn the music
on or off and adjust the Gamma. Using IR, you can play
in multiplayer mode and trade cards with your buddies.
Although Exit Nights is listed as supporting ARM/MIPS Pocket
PCs, we’ve tested it on both ARM and Xscale devices
and it worked fine.
With its newly created card game, nicely
crafted graphics and stylish music mix, Exit Nights brings
you to the trendy future where the playing cards speak of
gadgets and nightclubs host card tournaments. The highly
fictional game design is refreshing and addictive. If only
someone would fix the grammar and glaring misspellings!
