Knight Lite by Clickgamer, Price: $7.95
Reviewed April 2003

If you think you can swing your hefty sword with medieval armor weighing on your back in Knight Lite, you couldn’t be more wrong. Instead, Knight Lite will have you believe brains win over brawn after 9 challenging levels of memory exercise. Knight Lite, another cool game developed by Clickgamer, is a memory reflex game where you must repeat the correct music notes by pushing the color-coded buttons. Even though it’s a remake of a classic game, Knight Lite gives us a new look by designing the game around a love plot.

In the opening of the game, you will see an animation scene where the Viking King steals your hero’s girlfriend and sails away in a boat. You must guide your hero knight through several levels of chase to get the girl back, beat the Viking King in a sword fight at level 5 and then run like hell with your girl in tow to escape the ghost of the Viking King in hot pursuit. In each level, you will need to repeat the correct number and sequence given on the three buttons with different colors and musical notes. The first few levels are quite easy with only 3-6 notes to remember. As you advance to the last few levels, the task becomes daunting with more musical notes added to the sequence. The game demands your full attention and a very alert brain.

The makeover of the game interface and the embedded love story make this game fun to play. Each level you travel through has its unique environment including forest, icy kingdom, city skyline and more. The story is built perfectly to move the game from beginning to end with a sword fight in the middle. The graphics look slick and polished with cartoon-ish style. Characters are fun and lovable. The fading buttons and particle effects are nicely crafted, making this game a complete package for a unique and fun memory game.

The sound tracks are an enhancement to the gaming experience, and the sound FX is part of the game play. As your character travels through a Winter icy bridge or chases the love of his life to heaven, you will hear theme tracks like Winter and Heaven. The three buttons in the game have musical notes values, which will help you to remember the sequence along with visual aids. Knight Lite supports all Pocket PC devices including ARM/Xscale, MIPS and SH3.

It’s not often that a classic remake can come together so nicely with an interesting story, nice graphic and audio design. Knight Lite certain has achieved this. The game isn’t long, but later levels are certainly challenging. For gamers who like memory games, this is a very good title to have!

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Graphics The sharp and stylish graphics show a lot of creativity. The design is simple yet fits the story tightly and provides interesting gaming environment.
Sound Sound tracks and FX are excellent to accompany the action. It could use more tracks as I was expecting some dark music to go with the kidnapping scene and when the evil Viking King rising from the dead!
Fun Meter The game design and the graphics will attract gamers who enjoy memory games.
Addictivity The story takes your hero on a chase, a sword fight and a run from evil. Addictive game play, though it’s a bit short.
