Mars Needs Cows, by Astraware $14.95
Reviewed March 2002
Mars Needs Cows is a cute animated puzzle
game for the Palm. Mars has run out of animals and they've
sent you to Earth to collect some. You'lll start with 3 Martian
ships, and your goal is to beam up as many earth animals
as you can to your ship. Each puzzle has its own mission
telling you how many and what kinds of animals you need to
beam up. If you forget what your mission is, little icons
on the left hand stats bar remind you which critters you
need to fetch and beam. You can start at any of the 3 difficulty
levels, if you get stuck on one mission, you can use "Abort" to
see the solution. However you will loose a Martian ship each
time you Abort. After you loose all the ships, your mission
(game) is over. This is the cutest game both for kids and
adults (even vegetarians will likely enjoy it)!
Playing Hints and Tips
1) Before you start the game, make
sure you understand the following: wolves will eat sheep,
foxes will eat chickens, and the farmers will shoot foxes
and wolves. If you put any character next to or on top
of the Martian, it will run away to the edge of the playing
field. 2) Use the farmers, scarecrows and other animals
as your blockade so that you can put an animal in the right
square. In some tough levels, you will need even wolves
and foxes as your blocks. Just make sure you don't put
the animals they eat next to them. 3) Watch out for electric
fences. When the edges of the field turn red instead of
white, it means the fence is electric. Any animal you put
next to it will get zapped and disappear. It doesn't affect
the farmers. So use the farmers as your perimeter blockades.
4) If there are animals that are not required by the mission
but are in your way, feel free to beam them up to clear
your path. Just make sure you're making the right move,
cause once they are beamed up they are gone!
