Psion Series 7

This was Psion's first color unit, and it's also the largest. The Series 7 is about the same size as Windows CE Pro devices (smaller than a subnotebook), with a 640x480 VGA display and near full-sized keyboard. It's housed in a plastic case with a blue leather covering (ah those Brits, chic!). Released in mid-October 1999 in the UK, they're now available in the US. It runs the EPOC OS, and includes organizer apps such as Psion Agenda and Contacts, Office programs such as Psion Word and Sheet (spreadsheet), email and fax software, and PsiWin docking software. Price? ~ 580 UK pounds, and ~ $899 US.

Size: 235 x 182 x 37 mm Weight: 1150g including battery.

Performance: StrongARM SA1100 133MhZ processor, 16 megs of RAM upgradable via a proprietary plug in 16MB DIMM card, also expandable with Flash PCMCIA cards, accepting Single Type I/II CF card and/or Single Type I/II PC Card.

Display: Full VGA 640 x 480 pixels: 7.7" STN colour back lit LCD touch screen display. Pointer Touch screen digitizer and pen. Instant access to built in and user defined applications using application icons silkscreened on sides of display..

Keyboard: notebook style and quality keyboard. Pitch 17mm. Travel 3mm. Pantograph mechanism.

Battery: Lithium Ion, Psion claims 8.5 hours/charge.

Audio: Built-in speaker and microphone.

Ports, expandability and connectivity: 2 Internal bus slots for RAM/ROM, both accessible by user. Honda connector for RS232 and mobile phone connection @115Kbits/s. Series 5 compatible. DC jack for external power supply. PC Card slot (type I/II) CF type II card slot. IrDA interface (115Kbits/sec) Docking station interface.

Psion netBook

This was Psion's first color "ultra-mini" notebook-sized enterprise machine.It has a 7.7" 640x480 color back-lit display. It includes the Java Run Time Environment with JVM and class libraries. Psion targeted this machine, available in custom configurations, to the corporate enterprise markets rather than consumer/end-user folks. It supports Oracle 8i database connectivity.

Performance: Intel SA-1100 StrongARM 190MHz processor, 32 megs RAM, upgreadable to 64.

Display: 7.7" 640x480 color back-lit STN LCD panel Pointing device pen and digitizer.

Keyboard: 58 key standard layout.

Audio:12 bit digital sound with speaker and microphone.

Battery: Battery : Lithium-Ion battery pack, Backup: lithium cell, CR2032 External : 15.5V dc, 1.5A AC Mains Adapter.

Ports and connectivity:RS232 serial port to 115kbit/sec IrDA 1.1, 115kbit/sec and 4Mbit/sec, Optional flatbed docking station provides power and RS-232 communications.

Modem: none

Software: EPOC Operating System is loaded at cold power up into RAM from CF card or serial port. Operating System is software upgradable and may be built to customer requirements.
