Covertec Leather Cases

These are great times for case shoppers! We're no longer limited to a few manufacturers in our search for high quality, attractive leather cases. Covertec, a European company, offers an extensive line of cases for just about every PDA, including the T-Mobile, Dell Axim, Sharp Zaurus SL-5500, all iPAQ models including the 1910 and 5450, Tungsten T and W, most Sony Clié models and even the Palm Zire.

The lightly grained over-stitched leather of the case's exterior is lightly aromatic and looks top quality. The cases are supple yet protective. The interior of the cases are lined with a contrasting colored leather (generally either beige or brown) that's smooth with only the slightest hint of grain.

The flip cover is padded, and inside you'll find slots for two expansion cards as well as credit cards. We received the NX series case, and the WiFi card fits fine in one of the credit card slots and doesn't prevent the case from closing. If you own an NX, note that you must remove the WiFi card from the PDA's CF slot before closing the case. The iPAQ 3800/3900 series case has an inner flap that acts as a buffer between the screen and any cards in the flip cover.

All cases feature contrasting over-stitching, inner pockets for cards and a magnetic snap closure. They allow you to sync via cable while in the case, but generally not by cradle. Most are available in black, red or gold (which looks like light brown).

It's easy to recommend these cases. For $50 you get an expensive looking case that's protective without adding a lot of bulk to your PDA. Ports are easy to access, and for units with "odd" speaker placement like the Sony NX series, there's even a cutout over the speaker as well as a hole for the rarely-needed reset button. The cases come in a plastic retail package, and inside the plastic, there's a nice textured box with the Covertec logo and "Leather Premium Case" written in script below. This certainly makes for a nice gift box.
