Notebook and PDA Bags for Women: The Sumdex She
Rules Collection
Posted Jan. 2004 by Tong Zhang, Senior Editor
As if the bright reddish copper
color and feminine design were not enough, Sumdex named their stylish
yet very functional line of computer bags and PDA/gadget cases “She Rules”.
The bags and cases are designed for tech-savvy women who need to
carry their laptops, PDAs and cell phones anywhere they go. The entire
collection includes Jessica Utility case, Cindy Messenger Bag, Nicole
Modern Backpack, Miranda Slim Brief, Jennifer City Case and more.
Suffice to say that you can find a computer or gadget bag that will
fit any location and occasion.
Constructed in very sturdy high density Micro Cross-lock
Nylon, the bags are durable yet very light. This material also works
very well in wet weather. All the trim on She Rules bags are made
of Genuine Leather that not only give the bag a classy, feminine
look but also provide a sturdy base for shoulder straps, closure
snaps and zipper lines. The nickel finish on the metal handles for
the zippers and closure snaps fit in very well with the entire bag
design.
Well built doesn't mean you have to sacrifice the style.
She Rules bags have nice curves around the edges. The forest green
leather trims matched well with the deep reddish copper and tan colors
of these bags: sublet yet classy. The shoulder straps however could
use more style. They are made of the same material as the bags and
the lengths are adjustable.
Jessica Utility Case ($40,
Model # NOD-927)
This utility case measures
6.5” wide,
9” long x 3” thick, and can really be a dream
gadget bag for tech womem, whether you are on a long trip
or just going to a meeting cross-town. The main compartment
is big enough for a pocket-book wallet, a PDA and a small
digital camera. There is a zipper pocket in the main compartment
for important papers/ID/passport. Outside of the main compartment,
there is a zippered pocket in the front and open pocket in
the back of the case. The front pocket has slots for business
cards, a cell phone and a couple of pens. There is still
some additional space, even after you filled all the slots.
The back pocket does not have any slots so that it will fit
items of any size and shape.
All three compartments are top loading. The
self-healing nylon zippers seem well made. There is a flap
cover that will hide the main pocket and the front pocket,
and a snap closure at the bottom of the bag. This design
not only gives the bag a clear and stylish look, but also
provides even more security for your gadgets and papers inside.
The shoulder strap attaches to nickel finished metal hoops,
which are sewed onto the leather trim. The leather trim and
the metal hoops are thick and are of good quality, which
means the shoulder straps won't fall apart for a long time.

Cindy Messenger Bag ($50,
Model # NOD-936)
Even though it's called
Messenger Bag, “Cindy” is
an ideal bag for sub-notebook computers. If you have an ultra-small
notebook such as Sony
Vaio TR2A or small Tablet PCs such as the Acer
TravelMate C100 , you will find this bag fits your computer
nicely. The main compartment is padded very well for carrying
laptops and is quite roomy. If you have a relatively thick
subnotebook like the TR2A, you can put the laptop directly
inside of the main pocket; if you have a thin laptop like
the Acer, you could even put on a body-suite case before
storing it inside of this bag. There is also an additional
slot with a snap closure and two small pockets inside of
the main compartment for storing laptop accessories, wallet,
paper, etc., and a zipper pocket for packing your sensitive
papers and other items. The main compartment can be zipped
shut with dual pulling, self-healing nylon zippers.
In front of the main compartment, you will
find another large pocket that has slots for a cell phone,
PDA, business cards, pens, keys and other items. The pocket
can be closed with the zippers and hidden with a front flap
cover that snaps closed at the bottom of the bag. There is
another large pocket in the back of the bag that has a snap
closure in the middle. This pocket is less secure than the
other two compartments and is designed for quick access to
items that you need to pull out from your bag frequently.
The shoulder strap is made of the same durable
nylon material as the bag, and they are attached to the bag
via nickel metal hoops and thick leather strap holders. The
length of the shoulder strap can be adjusted, however there
isn't a shoulder pad on the strap.

Conclusion
It isn't surprising that fashion has found its way
to gadget bags. The She Rules collection from Sumdex is a very nice
combination of attractive design and functionality, at very reasonable
prices. The tasteful colors and shapes accentuate the feminine touch
while the strong material and well laid out pockets provide full
functionality. The bags are well built with secure features to protect
your valuable gadgets, yet they keep the sizes small. The only missing
feature is the shoulder strap pads, which may help prevent damaging
any silk or suede clothing.
