LiIon batteries typically start to degrade slowly after about a year of use. My cell phone lasts about 1/2 as long as when I first bought it four years ago. How long LiIon batteries last depends heavily on the heat to which they are exposed--how hot and how long. LiIon hates heat and will deteriorate much more rapidly when left in hot cars, etc.
