Circuit Breakers: Apple's New Anti-Theft Strategy

Facing mounting pressure from several members of Congress to provide iPhone owners with greater protection against rampant theft of iPhones, today Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled Apple's enhanced ant-theft protection for future devices.

According to Cook, "Starting with iOS 7, as soon as an iPhone is reported stolen, it will automatically reflash itself and install the Windows Phone operating system. This is the most advanced theft deterrent anyone has ever thought of."

San Francisco DA Jordan Gasket issued a response that said, "For years, we've been asking Apple to make stolen iPhones useless. We don't want them to have any apps, any features, nothing. This is exactly what we've been looking for."

Following the announcement, rates of iPhone theft fell by 99.9%.
