Dell Said to Release Smartphones on Schedule

According to several reports from China and Taiwan, Dell's CEO and founder Michael Dell is visiting Taiwan-based ODMs. Michael Dell has recently said that Dell will launch its smartphone product line on schedule despite recent market reports showed that some telcom providers being "less than thrilled" with a prototype smartphone which Dell had hoped to launch in the first half of 2009.

Based on several sources the speculation is that the first new smartphone products from Dell will likely run on the Windows Mobile platform, and also Android-based smartphones will likely to be in the mix.

Chinese reports also show that Dell is working with Foxconn Electronics in developing the smartphone products. Foxconn is a major ODM that's made US-marketed smartphones in the past.
