It seems that Kobo and Barnes and Noble are in sync-- yesterday Kobo announced their new 6" touch screen E-Ink ebook reader and today we've got a new Nook with those same features. Gone is the dual screen original Nook design, and now we've got a single 6" Pearl E-Ink display that uses Infrared touch sensors and a revised user interface that's geared towards touch.
The new Nook is darned cute looking, but the gender neutral color means it's OK for you fellas too. The new Nook runs Android 2.1 but won't have access to Nook Color apps (E-Ink isn't the best at response rates for running applications). It weighs considerably less than the other Nook ereaders, and at 7.48 ounces it won't drag your pockets down. The Nook will sell for $139 and be available around June 10th. It has WiFi but no 3G.
You can learn more at www.nook.com, and place a pre-order if you like. Of course, we'll be reviewing the new Nook.
