If you've been using the MacBook Air for years, perhaps you've experienced the discomfort of resting your wrists on the hard metal surface for long period of time. If the environment is uncomfortably hot or cold, you either sweat on the notebook when you are typing for a long time, or the metal feels cold under your wrists. Twelve South has come up with a wrist rest cover for the MacBook Air models that eliminate these potential problems. The SurfacePad for Air from Twelve South comes in two colors and both colors work with the modern clean MacBook Air look well: Jet Black and Pop Red.

Design

Twelve South products often have unique designs that compliment Apple products, the SurfacePad for Air is no exception. Though the design looks incredibly simple, the SurfacePad for the MacBook Air provides a nice set of features. The SurfacePad is made with smooth Napa leather that's thin enough that it still allows your MacBook Air to close shut properly but thick enough that you can feel the padding under your wrists. The SurfacePad covers most of the wrist rest area on the MacBook Air, leaving out the center trackpad and edges around the wrist rest area that the notebook needs to close securely. The SurfacePad also leaves out the curved cut in the center on the front edge of the MacBook Air that makes it easier for you to lift the display up.

The soft napa leather not only can protect the wrist rest agaist scratches from your watch, jewelry or other sharp objects, but it also makes the metal wrist rest feel softer and more comfortable to type on for long periods of time. The leather cover catches hand grease and sweat if you live in a hot climate, and feels warmer when you are in colder environment. The SurfacePad for Air comes in black and red, both look striking against the MacBook Air's silvery metal. The SurfacePad works with MacBook Air 11" and 13" models from 2010 and 2011.

Features

The SurfacePad Luxury Leather Cover for Air is very easy to install and leaves no residue after you take it off. The wrist rest cover comes in a pyramid shaped package. You can remove the adhesive protector on the back one piece at a time. Just line up the cover first, then secure one half of the cover while peel off the back protector and repeat the process. As with many advanced skins, the adhesive on the back of the SurfacePad doesn't leave any residue after you take it off the MacBook Air. Though you can reuse the cover, we don't suggest that you do it often. The strength of the adhesive will diminish with each installation.

Another great benefit of using the SurfacePad cover is that it not only protects the notebook in the covered area, but also gives the notebook a better grip when handling it with the lid open. The metal surface on an ultra thin MacBook Air can get slippery, and when the notebook is open it's even thinner to handle. The SurfacePad for Air gives the notebook a softer and better grip, which experientially makes a huge improvement on handling.

Conclusion

Simple yet full of useful features, the SurfacePad for Air is a wrist rest cover you never knew you needed. The leather cover looks great and compliments the clean and modern look of the MacBook Air. The cover is easy to install and reusable to certain extend. It feels nice under the wrists and protects the notebook from scratches, sweat and other surface damages to the large wrist area.
