Amazon Announces Kindle Paperwhite High Res E-Ink eReader

Nook with Glowlight, look out, the Kindle Paperwhite might just eat your lunch. Amazon's latest E-Ink reader features a front light for even white lighting and higher resolution display with 62 percent more pixels. The front light is a very welcome feature, but we're ecstatic to finally see a higher resolution 6" E-Ink reader. They've been stuck at 600 x 800 for years. The new Paperwhite has 212 ppi density so fonts look look really, really sharp.

The Paperwhite weighs 7.5 ounces and is good for two months on a charge with the front light on during use, according to Amazon. There will be two versions, a WiFi model and a WiFi + 3G version. The Kindle Paperwhite has an updated UI (finally!) that uses book covers rather than text based lists.

The WiFi model is $119 and the 3G model is $179.

Amazon also updated the latest generation basic Kindle while dropping the price to $69. It has a sharper display and supports children's books and offers improved parental controls.
