HP Envy X2 Full Review: Windows 8 Tablet and a Notebook Too

I wasn't expecting much from the HP Envy x2 transformer style Windows 8 tablet. So far, these Intel Atom tablets have been a bit sluggish in desktop mode and the keyboards have felt like afterthoughts. The Envy x2 when docked to the included keyboard dock looks, feels and acts just like an 11.6" ultraportable laptop. And the 1.5 lb. tablet itself is light and spritely enough to enjoy solo. Great ergonomics and usability both as a tablet and a laptop: sweet. And long battery life with a fanless design? You got it.

The HP Envy x2 runs Windows 8 32 bit on a 1.8GHz dual core Intel Atom with the usual 2 gigs of RAM and a 64 gig internal flash drive. It has a bright and sharp 11.6" IPS touch screen and HP says a digital pen is forthcoming, though it's not out yet so we couldn't test the pen. The all aluminum casing on both tablet and dock are fitting of the Envy line and it looks and feels like a classy product. The keyboard is the best we've used on a transformer style tablet and it has a secondary battery, 2 USB ports, a full size SDXC card slot and a full size HDMI port.
