Uncommon offers a series of frosted plastic cases for the iPhone 5, the Sorbet Series Permafrost UN Deflector case. The two-tone plastic case comes in 6 pastel color combos with frosted exterior and smooth interior. The Permafrost UN Deflector case is thin and light, adding very little bulk and only 0.6 oz. weight to your slim iPhone 5.
The Permafrost UN Deflector is a one-piece semi-translucent case that's made with plastic. The exterior has a soft touch texture and case uses 3DClearPrint technology to print the colors and the UN logo. The textured surface helps you grip the case better. The case is easy to install, just slide one vertical side of the phone into the case first then push the phone into the other side. Taking it out though isn't as easy as the case latches onto the edges of the iPhone 5's frame pretty well. The case does extend further above the edges to create a barrier for the display if you put the phone face down on a flat surface.
The Permafrost UN Deflector case feels reasonably sturdy, covering the back, the long sides and corners of the iPhone 5. It should prevent any scratches, nicks, bumps to the back or sides of the phone; and provides some shock absorption should you drop your phone in the case. The UN Defector case doesn't however cover most of the top and bottom sides of the iPhone 5 nor has anything that protects the front of the phone. The "Sobert" colored collection is eye catching and they look good dressing either the black or the white version of the iPhone 5.
The Permafrost UN Deflector is a very functional case. Since it leaves most of the top and the bottom of the iPhone 5 open, you have easy access to the top power button and all the audio ports and the Lightning port on the bottom. The case has a long side cutout to give you access to the silence button and volume buttons, and the cutout had a nice tapered bezel that makes it easier to feel the buttons.
The back cutout for the rear camera and flash is generous, leaving plenty of room for the camera lens to have a full view and for the flash to fully illuminate. The camera cutout also has a black rim that helps prevent flash glare that might have caused by the case. All the edges and cutouts are nicely machined and smoothed out so that they won't get caught on things or feel rough in hand.
The eye-catching, spring and Easter egg colored Permafrost UN Deflector case for iPhone 5 is a great choice for those who want a light and thin case to protect their iPhone's back from scratches and marks. The case makes it easier to handle the phone thanks to the textured surface and it provides easy access to everything on the smartphone. We love the color collection in the series, and the details in the case design including the black rim on the camera cutout and the taper to the side button cutout. The case however doesn't offer any protection for the front of the phone, though you can use any film protector with this case.
