SD vs. CF WiFi cards
|
|
Hello all, I'm considering an iPaq 2215 and had a question about Wi-Fi cards. I was wondering other than size of card what's the differences (advantages/disadvantages) between a SD Wi-Fi card vs. a CF WiFi card? Thanks.

You mean SD vs. CF? The real advantage of SD WiFi cards is for units that don't have CF slots. Also, if you like to keep a CF memory card in the slot even when online, it's nice to be able to use the SD slot for networking, freeing up the CF slot for memory. No other advantages.

CF card antennas protrude too-- they just not as thin so look sturdier. I'm sure one could snap off the end of the card while in the PDA, but it's pretty hard to do. With normal use I don't think you'd have to worry.

Most folks take the cards out when not using them because they stick out and to prevent them from consuming power (they can consumer a little bit of power even when the PDA is off). So it shoudn't be a problem-- they're designed to be inserted and removed frequently. SD card slots use a spring mechanism that pops the card out, that's why it feels easier.
