SD Expansion Card: Format?

Hi all, Re: iPaq 2490:
I'm getting a small window saying that Word Mobile Docs cannot attach to outgoing Hotmail messages, because the SD card can't be accessed.
There's a new 2GB SanDisk in the SD slot [Not SDHC], and it is as though the system does not recognize it. Please advise. Thanks

Follow up: There was a file on the SD card, now deleted, which may have been corrupted. In the iPaq 2490, the SD Expansion card does not require prior formatting by the user, like in a Palm device.
