Averatec further possible deception: where to buy

The Averatec website lists several places that supposedly carry their products. However, I was only able to find the notebook 1050 at CompUSA, and then after a lot of trouble. The other places I called or went to say they don't carry it, many don't seem to know who Averatec is, and otherwise know nothing about the product.

This is true, not only in California, but in other states, as I called a couple of other states where friends live, trying to locate the laptop I wanted. You can't buy directly from their store in Orange County, or directly from them at all. (You can hardly talk to anyone at their company, either.) Despite their website that indicates international sales, I wonder what this company actually is?

Costco also sells that model. Office Depot might still, but I'm not sure. On the web, I know that PC Mall, New Egg and eCost currently sell it too. They are a relatively small company compared to the big brands like Sony, HP and etc. and so aren't as well known.
