Wifi network

Does anyone know how to make yourself discoverable to other devices with wifi and not just with bluetooth? The other day I wanted to network with a laptop so I could send it some files and it didn't have bluetooth so I tried a wifi network. I didn't even get close to the desired result. Anyone know how?

WiFi doesn't really have a concept of discoverability, in fact it is designed for a totally different purpose than Bluetooth. Bluetooth is usually intended for pairing two devices for short-range communication, which is why they need to discover each other. WiFi creates an entire Ethernet network, just without the wires. Most people use a wireless router and connect all other devices to that, but you can create something called an ad-hoc WiFi network between two other devices. This is difficult, and I don't fully understand it myself.

You need an Access Point so that other devices can use the WiFi, and this feature is not in the PPC capability. Connecting to an AP is one thing, but broadcasting as an AP is another.

I know, but the laptop might be able to do it in ad-hoc mode, although I'm not certain.

Re: Wifi network

Are there currently any programs that would allow my handheld to accomplish such a task?
