Best GPS performing Android Tablet

I want to buy a tablet for several functions.
1 To use as a chartplotter on my boat. Hence the need for really good GPS performance.

2 To use while on holiday for email etc

3 To use to view my headcam video while on holiday.

My current research suggests either the Acer A510 or Toshiba as both these have USB interfaces etc that the other units seem to lack and I would like the option of copying files etc.

Just as with PCs and Macs, a device needs drivers to use USB peripherals. Google doesn't make webcam drivers for Android, but there was an open source driver someone was working on (they may have dropped the project though).

Re: Best GPS performing Android Tablet

I was just going to buy the Navionics charts that are available for ios and Android and was really wanting comments on the best performing Tablet GPS. Reading your review the A510 seems to have a good GPS performance and meets most of the other features I need. My present headcam is a ContourHD which records h264 but in a MOV format that I know Android does not support but I am thinking of getting a GoPro Hero2 that records in mp4 that I feel should play. Also has the options of a Bluetooth control too.

Both have decent GPS units. For the webcam, it's a matter of having drivers to access the webcam, not just recording format. There are several video players on the Google Play Market that can handle a variety of video formats even if the built-in player can't.

I think I will get the ACER A510.

Good choice. It's faster and newer than the Thrive, so should be more future proof.

Other plan would be to wait before I buy and look at the new Toshiba 10 when it comes out. The A510 is not in the stores here yet due early next month I think. One can wait for ever though as there is always something better coming out in a few months !!!

The quad core Toshiba Exite 10 AT305 (not the dual core Excite LE AT205) looks like it will be a decent quad core tablet. It has pretty much the same feature set as the competitors, but it is quite thin.
