help with buying a hybrid laptop

I looking to purchase a laptop/tablet for my fiance for christmas. This I want it to have is a normal laptop keyboard but with a detachable screen. It to have windows 8, running intel i3 or better? Something reliable and looks great. I ma looking to spend under $650. The ones I have found that seem to fit are the Asus transformer t100(heard it looks cheap and the mouse track has problems) and the HP split x2 (seems to be quite heavy and bulky). Can you suggest if either of those are better than the other or if there is another one I should be looking in to. thank you Lisa

The Split x2 does look better (more expensive and classy looking) than the Asus Transformer Book T100. It also has a bigger screen and a secondary battery in the base, which explains some of the added weight and bulk. I think it would make a nicer gift.

In that price range for a transformer style, those would be the two that come to mind. The original Surface Pro might be discounted down to that price, but I'm not sure I'd call the Type Cover 2 a traditional keyboard, though it is quite good.
