You sure can use it with POP3 accounts. Just make sure the unit is unlocked so you can use any SIM you wish. Most other US mobile phones are locked to the provider, not sure about Blackberries.

Matt, I guess you don't use a GSM provider-- their phones use SIM cards which activate the phone and store you phone number and other data.
I'm not sure about dialup to AOL since they do things a bit differently than most other ISPs. You'd best give them a call to ask if they support dialup from PDAs and mobile phones.

Goodness, they should've at least explained that your phone uses a SIM card which is a very, very small card generally located under the phone's battery. If you wished, you could take that SIM out and put it in another GSM phone (either unlocked or offered by your carrier) and be good to go.
As I said, I don't know the ins and outs of dialing into AOL, but it does work with other ISPs. Generally, that connection will be slower than GPRS (about 19k rather than 45k) and it will cost you plan minutes, unlike GPRS which isn't billed against your minutes.
