Phone Review: LG enV VX9900

The follow up to the LG VX9800 improves on a good thing with a 2MP camera, even better QWERTY keyboard and a robust set of Bluetooth profiles. The enV is offered by Verizon Wireless in the US and it looks like a candy bar phone but opens up notebook style to reveal a sharp QVGA inner display, stereo speakers and thumb keyboard. If you're a heavy texter, this EVDO and V Cast enabled phone should be on your short list.

Re: Phone Review: LG enV VX9900

Can you give a little bit more detail on how well (or poorly) the VX9900 handles wireless synch of emails, contacts, and calendar entries coming from MS Outlook? Does the redirector work like the Blackberry Desktop Redirector, where it actually pushes the e-mails out to the device every time my desktop receives an e-mail on Outlook? Or do I have to ask the VX9900 to pull the e-mails from my desktop computer? Also, the Blackberry Redirector doesn't allow for wireless synching of contacts and calendar. So I am wondering if the Verizon wireless synch does wireless synch of contacts and calendar. Please advise. Thanks!!

Re: Phone Review: LG enV VX9900

Verizon's Wireless Sync service is separate from the enV and is available for several Verizon phone models. It does push email in close to real time (an app on your PC pushes new emails to the Verizon Wireless Sync server which then pushes the emails to your phone). It supports up to 3 email accounts (POP3 and IMAP) and it does sync calendar and contacts to the phone.

It also supports manual syncing, which is handy if you want outgoing mail to get sent before the next scheduled outgoing check (outgoing mail works on a schedule rather than push or immediate).

I have had success with BitPim. It handles the phonebook, ringtones and wallpaper (but not calendar). Use the USB cable for the vx9900 (you get one with the Music Essentials kit).

Wow is that thing nice or what? I just can't bring myself to purchase a phone that's more complicated than my computer. I must be getting old. : ) Great review as usual, though.

Nice review. Nice phone - but haven't seen such in Europe.

I don't believe LG makes a GSM version, so no Europe .
