Notebook review: Sony Vaio Z550 13" powerhouse with Intel Montevina

Impossibly fast for a notebook this small and light, the Sony Z series of notebooks have wrangled up our Editor's Choice award. The Sony Z550 is one of the first Intel Centrino 2 (aka Montevina) notebooks to ship. It has extreme good looks, a carbon fiber casing with brushed aluminum inside and weighs just 3.31 pounds. But there's more than good looks: this notebook has a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 3 gigs of DDR3 RAM, a dual layer DVD burner (Blu-ray optional), hybrid graphics (change from Intel 4500HD integrated graphics to the NVIDIA 9300M at the slide of a switch with no reboot required) and HDMI among other amenities. And at $2,099, the price is by no means crazy for what you get.
