Video Review: Sprint HTC EVO 4G Android smartphone

If you like livin' large, the EVO 4G is the thing: a 4.3 inch capacitive display, Android 2.1 with HTC Sense, an 8 megapixel camera, front-facing secondary camera, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and dishwasher. But seriously, this phone seemingly has it all, plus one more little feature: 4G WiMAX with EV-DO Rev. A 3G to back it up.

The EVO will be available on Sprint on June 4 for $199 with a 2 year contract. We take a look at a final production version in our video. And our full written review will follow in a few days. Feel free to post questions .

I'd love to see a review where we actually see an aspect of the phone that we use everyday, like the address book, PIM syncing, etc.

It looks like an awesome phone but I don't recall if you mentioned that the Sprint HTC EVO 4G requires a $10 monthly "Premier" charge even if you are NOT in a 4G market
Also, the WiMax Hotspot is an optional additional service that will cost
$29/month to activate on this phone

Good question lilysanro. Sprint has only said the phone requires that additional plan charge but I too wonder what the deal is if you're in an area that won't see WiMAX any time soon. I'll ask Sprint.

Re: Video Review: Sprint HTC EVO 4G Android smartphone

I just got word back from Sprint, and the data plan rate is specific to the phone and not the available network. So the $10 additional charge applies, and they assume thanks to the phone's power, large screen, web browser and high res camera that folks will be using more data than average for a smartphone.

Yeah, you're exactly right. I created a username on here just to answer that question lol. I'm from the Android Central Forums and we had had that discussion sometime last week I believe. The charge is for a 'feature rich' smartphone.

"We think you'll really like this phone, so we're going to have to impose a fine" - Ha!

I guess they don't think you will like their other phones quite so much.
