iPad Game Review: Jigsaw Mansion for iPad
Reviewed by Shaun Price
One time or another we've all played and loved jigsaw puzzles, but as we get busier we don't have time or space for this fun game anymore. The iPad provides a perfect platform for games like jigsaw puzzle: no huge physical space needed and you can have many graphics/pictures since it?s all in digital form. Jigsaw Mansion for iPad is a fun jigsaw puzzle game with 9 pictures and the ability to put puzzle pieces together as easy as the physical board game.
Jigsaw Mansion has a great way to get you started on the puzzles: the game presents you with the pictures hanging on the wall of the Jigsaw Mansion, you tap on any picture to start the puzzle. Puzzles don?t have a huge number of pieces but that doesn?t mean it?s a snap to solve them. All pictures are original which ensures even an avid jigsaw puzzle players will see new picture, and each of the nine puzzle is as fun to complete as the last. Some puzzles are a bit challenging though; sometimes completing the puzzles with ?do the edges first? does not always hold true. The game incorporates several interesting jigsaw techniques, Trick Edge, Spiral and Rose cuts. Though the puzzles will challenge your mind but not to the point of frustration.
Since this is a digital jigsaw game, we get the digital visuals to go with the puzzle solving. When putting the correct pieces together they kind of snap and there is a ring that is made when pieces are joined together. So it makes it a little easier knowing you have gotten the right piece in place. Once you place the piece in its correct location it will not be able to be removed again. The game also auto saves your progress so if you have to exit the game at anytime you will be right where you left off.
The game UI is well designed. You are given a tray at the bottom of the screen where you can hide the guide picture as well as the pieces you are currently not working with, so that nothing is in your way. Touch controls work well also. You can rotate the puzzle pieces in 360 degrees with multi-touch support, simulating real life puzzle solving gameplay. There is no score board in Jigsaw Mansion.
The artwork for the Puzzles is absolutely wonderful, each very vivid and detailed. You are given the ability to move the pieces in whichever direction you would like also being able to rotate them in a complete 360-degree rotation.
There unfortunately is not any background music for this game. The SoundFX are sorely lacking, only the ring you get when connecting the pieces. The game unfortunately does not have any iPod support either.
If you are looking to do a puzzle and don?t really want to pull on out of the cupboard then Jigsaw Mansion is exactly what you need. All ages can enjoy this game. With only nine puzzle to complete and choose from you will be done vary quickly, and we wish there were a lot more puzzles. The game is worth its value but not at 4.99, hopefully we will see more pictures added in future updates.
