Video review: HTC Surround Windows Phone 7 on AT&T

Yes, it's Windows Phone 7 week here at MobileTechReview since Monday was the official launch date here in the US. Today we take a look at the HTC Surround Windows 7 phone that's available from ATT for $199 with contract (same price as all the launch phones). The specs are no surprise since the manufacturers stuck with Microsoft's minimum requirements:

3.8", 800 x 480 capacitive multi-touch display
1GHz Snapdragon CPU
16 gigs of storage
576 megs of RAM
5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash
GPS, WiFi 802.11b/g/n
Bluetooth with headset, handsfree and A2DP profiles
3G HSPDA 7.2Mbps

What sets the HTC Surround apart from its brethern, including HTC's own HTC HD7 on T-Mobile is the slide-out speaker bar that turns your phone into a baby boom box. HTC decided to embrace the Zune phone aspect, and make a phone that makes a nod to that capable player and ecosystem. Dolby Mobile is on board at the press of a button and audio is indeed a louder and a bit sharper than other Windows 7 phones. There's also a kickstand so you can set the little noise-maker up on your desk to listen to some tunes or watch a video when you really should be working. Not into sharing your tunes with an unwelcoming world? The Surround also makes a great GPS with louder and clearer spoken navigation that you'll get with most phones.

Otherwise, it's business as usual for HTC: attractive and understated finishes that avoid looking plasticky, a solid feel in the hand and considerable heft thanks to the slider design.
