iPhone Game Review: Chop Chop Hockey
Reviewed by ninjackid
In the latest addition to the Chop Chop series by Gamerizon, Chop Chop Hockey, you'll be taking the fun action frenzy that most have come to expect from the Chop Chop series, to the ice.
Chop Chop Hockey features 8 teams, and four different arenas, in which you can play tournaments. But don't be expecting a hockey sports simulation game here, no, expect all the wacky fun you had playing the previous 4 Chop Chop games. All the matches are 3-on-3, and obviously whoever gets the most goals when the timer ends wins, or when there's a tie, sudden death comes into play.
For those who have played a game in the series before, you should know how unique each game uses the touch screen. In Chop Chop Hockey, much like Chop Chop Soccer, you place one finger on the screen, and move it around to move your player, along with flicks and taps to hit your opponent who has the puck, to pass the puck to your teammates, and to take a shot at the opposing team's goal.
While this may sound fun, unfortunately, the game is not without its letdowns such as there are times when the control system feels unresponsive and clumsy as sometimes when you mean to move your player, it registers it as a pass, or when you mean to pass the puck to your teammate, it ends up taking a random shot. This can be very cumbersome at times, and also aiming your shot doesn't feel as precise as it should.
Another letdown is the fact that the game only has one main game mode, which is the tournaments. It would be nice to see others added such as local and online multiplayer added in the future.
Graphics & Sound
The graphics have that loveable cute design that we have come to expect from Gamerizon and they look crisp and colorful, and overall pleasing and work for the game.
The sound effects are good, with crowds cheering you on, and your standard hockey sound effects, but there is no in-game music, however, you can listen to your iPod during gameplay.
Like all Chop Chop games, Chop Chop Hockey is a fun action-packed casual sports game that anyone can have fun with, and while it does have small control issues that may frustrate some, it's still a must-have for fans of the series or fans of the sport.
Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):
Graphics: - 5 - Cute character designs and great arena designs look great.
Sound: - 4 - Good sound effects, iPod music supported.
Controls: - 3.5 - Great unique touch screen controls, but they are bit imprecise and unresponsive for making shots and passing the puck.
Gameplay: - 4 - Chop Chop Hockey is a fun casual arcade hockey experience, but the loose controls and somewhat shallow gameplay might be a letdown to some players.
Playing Hints and Tips:
-Once the puck is in the other teams hands, be sure to try all you can to get it back.
