Droid Charge by Samsung Video Review: 4G LTE Android Smartphone on Verizon

The HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon is going to have some competition on April 28th when the Droid Charge hits the shelves. Like the Thunderbolt, the Droid Charge has a 4.3" 800 x 480 display, a 1GHz single core CPU and 4G LTE. But Samsung has the display advantage with their Super AMOLED Plus display: the blacks are midnight in the country on a moonless night and the colors are surreally vivid.

The Samsung has a somewhat unusual design with a pointy chin and mechanical front buttons that move and go "click" in the old fashioned way. It's on the thick side, especially where the rear chin curves out, but it does feel nice in hand if you've got fairly large paws.

Data speeds are obscene, and we averaged between 11 and 13 megs down on LTE. Reception and voice quality have us a little worried though, but we'll withhold final judgement until we get to test it a few more days and deliver our verdict in our full written review.

The Droid Charge has a 1600 mAh battery that so far seems to have more stamina than the Thunderbolt, an 8 megapixel camera that takes nice shots and video (Samsung does good cameras) and a front 1.3MP camera. Of course, the usual trio of WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS are on board.

Here's our Droid Charge video review, and don't miss our full written Droid Charge review.
