iPhone Game Review: Jetpack Joyride
Reviewed by SpaZtrigger
Barry Steakfries is back in an all new adventure when he steals a machine-gun Jetpack from a top secret laboratory. It will truly be a Jetpack joyride for you at least.
Like Halfbrick's other game Monster Dash, Jetpack joyride is a 2D platformer game where you must overcome obstacles to advance in levels, until you get killed in some sort of fashion. After Barry steals the Jetpack he must avoid obstacles like lasers and missiles and escape with the newly acquired Jetpack. During the escape you may come across flying tokens known as spin tokens which allow you to play a bonus roulette game after Barry gets hit by a laser or missile.
There are lots of bonuses like +3 spin tokens and jackpot which gives you 1000 coins. You can also get power-ups when you grab a block with a gear symbol on it, Which will give you 1 of 5 different machines like Mr. Cuddles a huge fire breathing mechanical dragon; or you could get a motorcycle which apparently is Bad as Hog. Other power-ups include the Crazy Freaking Teleporter, profit bird, and Lil Stomper, but as soon as the machine comes in contact with any of the zappers and lasers then they will break.
The score for Jetpack joyride depends on how far you go with the Jetpack and with the help of the spin tokens you could get farther after death if you manage to win the little blast, the big blast, or the atomic blast. To make Jetpack Joyride even more fun there are missions to boost your rank and give you stars to help boost your rank. Certain missions can give you a certain amount of star and when you finish all the missions you can get the rank of Barry which is the best out of all the other ranks.
Finally using the coins you acquired in game you can buy new upgrades like a new Jetpack or some new clothes or if you really have nothing to spend your money on then you could make your machines golden so then you could have a GOLDEN crazy freaking teleporter. Halfbrick knows how to make games fun and by adding missions Jetpack Joyride became the most addicting game I've played this month and maybe even all time.
Jetpack Joyride looks like any other Barry Steakfries game available. It has good graphics and funny looking characters with big heads and little bodies. Halfbrick is known for making addictive games with great graphics like Fruit Ninja. Now it looks like Halfbrick can add Jetpack Joyride to its hall of fame.
The controls for Jetpack joyride are responsive, which help makes the gameplay smooth. The controls are intuitive and shouldn?t take you any time to get used to them and star enjoying the gameplay.
Halfbrick also delivers high quality music with their high quality games. The music is fun, up beat yet can easier fade to the background as you are busy dodging missiles and laser beams. But when you do notice the soundtracks you wont be disappointed. The audio packs hold up even after played for hours, the music never gets boring. While the FX are good they should add more and maybe even add voice clips like screaming scientists and Barry laughing.
Word of Warning: If you play this game you might not be able to put it down which is known as the Barry Steakfries-itis. You get so absorbed into Jetpack Joyride that you might not be able to quit. We enjoy the game thoroughly and recommend it to all Barry Steakfries fans!
