Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 Video Review

We've got the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 in house, and this is Samsung's new media player. Think of it as a Galaxy S minus the phone. It's also available in a 4" model for those who prefer portability over bigger-screen movies and photos. The Player runs Androis OS 2.3.5 Gingerbread with Samsung's TouchWiz software, though it's not the latest version that's we've seen on the most recent Galaxy S II smartphones.

Both the 4 and 5 inches models have the same specs (other than screen size). They have a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU with Power VR graphics, 8 gigs of internal storage, an 800 x 480 resolution display (not Super AMOLED), WiFi, Bluetooth, a GPS and dual cameras. Each has a microSD card that can take up to 32 gig cards. The 4" sells for $229 and the 5" sells for $269.

hough the market for dedicated media players is being decimated by smartphones, Samsung felt there was enough demand to make the Galaxy Player. It's comparable, specs-wise to the Galaxy S line of phones, and not the S II phones (that's why it doesn't cost more).

Before you ask why someone would buy this rather than iPod Touch, I'll answer:

1. Larger displays
2. Adobe Flash Player
3. Expandable memory
4. Better rear camera
