French case maker Noreve has churned out some great cases for popular smartphones and tablets. Their latest iPad case, the Tradition B for the new iPad 3rd generation is a very nice looking case that's super protective and has some useful features for daily use. The Tradition B is one of the popular lines that include high quality leather and hard shell casings. As with most Noreve cases, you can choose from four series of colors and textures for the Tradition B leather case for the new iPad.
The Noreve Tradition B Leather Case is made with high quality leather and handcrafted based on your choice of texture and color. Of the four selections, the Nappa leather texture includes the largest color collections - 12 colors and has smoothed out leather surface. The other three texture selections have smaller numbers of color choices (3-4) but their textures have captivating effects, especially the Hi Gloss Metallic finishes. We are using the Sandy Vintage leather cases in this review. The Noreve Tradition B Leather Case has a functional design. It looks clean and professional, yet has that high quality leather look. The leather surface on the Vintage line gives the case an "aged" look when you use it for a while, and it's very protective thanks to the hard shell tablet case along with a well padded front cover. Noreve puts a small metal brand badge on the bottom right corner on the front cover.
Both exterior and interior of the case are leather, but the interior leather feels much softer in hand, and it's engraved with Noreve branding with a matching color to the exterior. The Noreve Tradition B Leather Case works with both the iPad 2 and the new iPad 3rd gen, though it fits the iPad 2 better and looks slightly off on the new iPad 3. But the new iPad stays in the case fine and all cutouts still line up with their intended ports and buttons. The front cover feels soft thanks to the extra padding and latches onto the iPad for secure closure. The back tablet pocket has less padding but much stiffer to provide a stronger structural support as well as fending off bumps and bruises to the tablet. The two sides of the case connect via a strip of leather and strong stitching. The case covers the entire tablet with a good amount of protection yet looks reasonably slim, and it weighs 11.6 ounces.
The Noreve Tradition B Leather Case for the new iPad 3rd gen is easy to use. The tablet pocket holds the new iPad securely with 2 side hard lips in landscape orientation, and you can push the iPad into the bottom lip easily to put the tablet in. With the folding break on the back, when you take the tablet out of the bottom lip, you can prop up the iPad into standing position in four viewing angles as there are three grooves in the front cover's interior along with the end lips being the fourth position holder. The stand works very nicely at holding the iPad steadily in the stand.
The Noreve Tradition B Leather Case has cutouts on the right side for both the front cover latches and to give you access to the side buttons on the new iPad. The top cutouts leave out the power button, the top mic and the 3.5mm audio jack for easy access. The bottom cutouts give you access to the 30-pin charging/syncing connector as well as the speaker grill to let sound out. Some of the cutouts have generous length, so you should have no trouble using the buttons or port with cables. There is also a rear camera cutout, and while it doesn't block the lens at all, the camera doesn't sit in the center of the cutout.
As mentioned, the Noreve Tradition B Leather Case fits the iPad 2 perfectly but feels a bit off with the new iPad 3rd gen that's a bit thicker than the iPad 2. While everything works, the tablet doesn't sit in the case like a hand in a fitted glove. The front cover has no trouble latching onto the tablet to keep the case though, and it has magnetic closure that can automatically turn on or off the screen smoothly.
We are very impressed by the leather quality and the look of the Noreve Tradition B Leather Case for the new iPad. It feels very protective of the iPad and the case is very easy to use. The cutouts and the built-in stand work nicely as designed, and the case is reasonably slim and light. The color and texture selection for handmade cases like this are hard to come by, and the case will last you for a long time. The only concern we have is that it doesn't fit the new iPad 3 like a glove.
Price: $89.99-$118 for Nappa leather; $131 for other textured selection
