1 Million BlackBerry Z10 Phones Sold in Q4, Company Shows a Profit

We've all been wondering just how many BlackBerry Z10 smartphones have sold, and RIM (doing business as BlackBerry now) announced earnings and shipment numbers. The first BlackBerry 10 phone sold 1 million in the 4th quarter that ended March 2. Obviously, that doesn't include US sales since the Z10 wasn't yet on sale here in the US at that time. It does include about a month of sales in Canada and those European countries where the phone was on sale. That's a darned good start for a company once synonymous with smartphone but lately synonymous with has-been in popular mind share.

The company lost 3 million subscribers, but it still has 76 million subscribers (hard to call BlackBerry as has-been when you see that number).

They made GAAP 18 cents per share in Q4 (22 cents per share based on $114 million adjusted income)

Gross margin of 40%.

Revenue was 2.7 billion.

BlackBerry sold 6 million phones in the quarter.
