Found your review very useful in decision making )

Have ordered a Q1.

Would appreciate knowing if it is possible to load software via usb key or CF card - eg DW8 CD copied to key/flash card? I suspect it would, which would remove the need for an optical drive. Also does an HP bluetooth folding keyboard work with the Q1?

Cheers
Chris

Yes, you can use a USB flash drive or CF card to install software, just as you can with a "regular" Windows XP machine.

Re: Samsung Q1 coverage and review- day by day

Does anyone know if those 4 assignable buttons on the left side of the console can be assigned "Right/Left" mouse click values?

I plan on getting the Q1-SSD for myself this Xmas. I want to use it for audio applications, so it's important that I can "turn" a virtual knob on a VSTi synth or drum machine.

I have read that the buttons lose their assignments also, anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,
chaz

Re: Samsung Q1 coverage and review- day by day

Before I spend $1000+ I always check out tech support. I called Samsung with a bios-related technical question and was referred to a "Level Two" technical person -- 90 MINUTE WAIT TIME and no option for callbacks! No real tech info on their website. This is not acceptable for a $1000+ item.

I will not buy more expensive Samsung products as a result.

Re: Samsung Q1 coverage and review- day by day

You are very smart to check out the customer service first. Their website is rather disappointing.

I purchased a Q1 recently and have Samsung Blackjack (Cingular) with data service. I was looking forward to going online wirelessly anywhere using the Bluetooth internet sharing function of the Blackjack. I discovered that this is not possible after being on the phone with the customer service for 2 hours. The Q1's bluetooth apparently is only for connecting with gadgets. (How disappointing!!!) I can still go online with the Blackjack using a USB cable, but this is not what I envisioned from the origami concept.
If anybody knows how I can go around this I would appreciate your help. Thanks!

Re: Samsung Q1 Wireless

It's too bad the Q1 does not have WAN capabilites like the Sony 380N or 390N.
It would be perfect if it did.

Re: Samsung Q1 Wireless

This is the biggest piece of carp that I've ever wasted money on. The reviews written on this site for this UMPC are useless. It can't take into account actually using it for more than the time it took to write up that article.

I had mine for less than month before the screen got messed up spontaneously. I turned it off at night and turned it on in the morning to find the area on the screen where those menu buttons pop up are scrambled ALL THE TIME. It doesn't go away ever. I called Customer Service and after being on hold for more than an hour, they couldn't help. I can plug it into a screen and it's fine on the external screen but not on the UMPC itself. WTF?

Anyone have any advice? Cuz now if I want to see the full screen, I need the screen and it is no longer a UM of the UMPC set.

Re: Samsung Q1 Wireless

I use UMPCs daily, not just during the time I write a review and I actually owned the Samsung Q1 (original Q1, not the newer Ultra which I found too slow) for 8 months and used frequently it during that time. That said, I'm sorry to hear that your Q1's display is acting up.

Did Samsung's customer service not try any troubleshooting with you once you finally got a live person on the line? Did they have any suggestions such as re-installing the graphics driver or if that didn't work, sending it in for repair? If you had it less than a month, it's under warranty and they should repair it if they can't get it working via troubleshooting over the phone.

Re: Samsung Q1 Wireless

Hello starring flamingo,

I bought a new Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC - Entry Level- Windows Vista Home Premium Based.

I am having similar problem like you.

While I am using it when I touch or press any right upper key (letters) menu buttons pop up are scrambled like menu button pressed.

Is it a software (setting), or hardware problem?

Did you fix this problem, How can I fix it?
