ASUS has officially announced their new A636 and A632 Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PCs with integrated GPS. The A636 should go on sale in the US at the end of this month, according to our contact at ASUS. The unit has a swivel-out antenna designed to significantly enchance GPS reception and the SIRF Star III GPS chipset. The antenna folds flush against the device's body when not in use.
In the PDA department, it looks quite nice, with a fast 416 MHz Intel XScale CPU, the latest Windows Mobile operating system, Bluetooth and WiFi. It has an interesting industrial design with a front directional pad surrounded by application launcher buttons, and a secondardy directional pad with volume and zoom controls and a large speaker so you can hear those directions.
ASUS bills this as a multimedia device as well, given the large speaker, bright display and claimed 18 hour MP3 player time (screen off, but still we wonder if the 1300 mAh battery can deliver that many hours of musical joy).
Look for a review of the A636 from us in the coming weeks, as well as a review of the Garmin M3!
