UMPC News: FranklinCovey jumps in with PlanPlus for new device
      #23073 - 03/18/06 02:26 PM

Seem things are starting to get serious in the UMPC world as more companies begin to weigh in with their support.

FranklinCovey, the productivity trainers and tool makers, announced their PlanPlus software package will include support for the new UMPC devices to be release in April.

From the company press release:

"FranklinCovey's PlanPlus for Windows XP 5.0 was created with the company's development partner Agilix Labs. The application is a full featured planning system designed to bring the experience of using the FranklinCovey Planning System to desktops, laptops, Tablet PCs and now the Ultra Mobile PC. The application allows the user to utilize FranklinCovey's planning methodology in one complete system. The software incorporates a calendar, contacts, and task management with enhanced features for daily and weekly planning, note-taking and organization within the layout and familiarity of a paper planning system. ... "

Jeff Anderson, FranklinCovey Vice President of Product Management, said, "FranklinCovey's PlanPlus software allows people to have all of the functionality of a paper-based planning system as well as the capability and convenience of a computer-based planning system. Microsoft's Ultra Mobile PC platform takes this increased functionality to a new level with enhanced mobility and connectivity. We are excited to continue to work with Microsoft to create applications that increase our customers'; productivity wherever they are."

PlanPlus is touted as an enhancement for Microsoft's Outlook, not a replacement. Having seen a review in another publication, I can see how it would give users a very serious, feature rich addition to just using Outlook for planning and personal productivity. From what I remember, it also had a better Journaling component integrated into the suite.

At US $99, it could be the right alternative for folks wanting a planning application more suited to their style and needs.
