Mac-Pro Systems has announced their JamPod guitar adaptor for iPod, which is now compatible with the iPod nano via their new uLink accessory.
The JamPod is a small guitar amplifier module that plugs into the top of any Apple iPod music player, that lets a guitar or bass player practice along with songs on the iPod, through the iPod's own earbuds.
At just 1.6" x 1.6" x .5", the gloss white module easily plugs into the headphone jack and the remote port on top of any dock connector model iPod or iPod mini. The JamPod is powered by the iPod, so requires no batteries. Inside the JamPod is the same high quality miniature guitar amplifier circuitry used in our company's JamPlug product. There is a mixer circuit that is controlled by the top-mounted volume wheel to adjust the output level into the earbuds or headphones. A 48-inch white guitar cord is included for connecting a guitar or bass to the JamPod.
JamPod works with any electric guitar, electric bass, or other instrument that sends a guitar-level output signal through a 1/4-inch instrument jack. Just plug the included cable into the 1/4-inch jack on your guitar, bass, acoustic-electric guitar, or other instrument that produces a standard instrument level output signal to a 1/4-inch jack. Turn on your iPod and select a song. Set the iPod's output level and the instrument level, and, magically, you will have both your iPod and your instrument playing through your earbuds or headphones. You can't imagine the sense of 'being inside the song' like using the JamPod.
Since the iPod nano no longer has a remote control port, nano owners who wanted to use the JamPod were out of luck... until now. Mac-Pro's new uLink lets you connect accessories that previously only worked with the 3rd and 4th generation iPods and the iPod mini to your iPod nano, adapting the dock connector port and headphone jack into a socket that resembles that on the top of the older iPods.
Mac-Pro notes that the uLink is not compatible the Griffin iTalk or Belkin Voice Recorder. Since it relies on the location of the nano's headphone port, presumably the uLink (and therefore the JamPod) are incompatible with the iPod 5G.
