There are a few solid Twitter apps for Android with Swift, Seesmic and Twidroid being my top picks. But there's a new kid on the block, TweetCaster from Handmark, and it's easily become my top choice among Android Twitter applications. I've been testing the beta version for a week now, and Handmark should be ready with a release version next week. If you're not familiar with them, Handmark has been in the mobile app business for many years and their Handmark Express has made it onto quite a few Sprint phones.
TweetCaster has a very slick and attractive UI with bubble-style tweets, fairly large avatars and color coding. It definitely raises the bar for visuals in an Android Twitter app. There are 5 tabbed windows for the timeline, messages, direct messages, favorites and twitter lists. The app works in both portrait and landscape modes and supports soft and hardware keyboards. We've tested it on the Nexus One, Moto Droid and the MyTouch 3G.
TweetCaster will sell for $4.99 and there will be a free version with the same feature set but with ads.
Any word on why there isn't an iPhone version? Handmark already has 63 other apps on the App Store.
