Wow. That is a absolute killer little computer! I hope it isn't $2000....probably will be. That's the downside to these great little hopefuls...that you'll have to spend the same amount you would for a normal sized laptop.

Sweet! Exactly what I've been looking for, except that the battery life doesn't seem long enough for serious travelers. Also, some type of card access would be nice. If they put in a better battery, I'd shell out just about any $$.

And let's hope this isn't going to be like the OQO and actually sees the market before the technology becomes outdated.

Very cool, but where's the serial port? I could see something like this as a great portable console for network geeks, but as many will attest, when everything else is down and out, sometimes the only way to get a network back into a useable state is thru a serial port on a core switch or master router. Other that that minor wish item, I say 'Sweet!'.

I'd love to have some good news on this, but I "registered for updates" on their website over a month ago, and haven't gotten any news. Hopefully this summer...

This is Vaporware folks. This thing will never be sold. This thing was supposed to have been released over a year ago. Paul Allen needs to plop down some money and actually manufacture these things, instead of simply selling the idea. Too bad he's too much of a tight-ass to put up any of his own money. Being one of the original Microsoft founders, he's only a billionaire a few times over. So they are calling it the Flipstart now. It was just the Vulcan PC. I see they did some styling changes to the case too, the specs have not been increased any. They added the LCD screen to the outside case.

It sounds like you've been following the device. If you have any other insights, please share. I like the device based on the specs and the form factor. But I don't want to wait for two years when the specs are not attractive anymore.
Thanks LisaG for letting us know the release date. Please keep us posted if you hear anything about the release date or any changes on the device.

Haha!
Another ugly ugly little piece of overpriced plastic crap that will never see the light of day beyond coffeebars in The Valley
if only it:
1. were thinner 2. would have 12hr battery life without an 'extended battery-pack' option 3. would pack a tri-band cellphone 4. would run GNU/Linux out of the box
sigh.

How are they going to accomplish item 2, have it run on radioactive isotopes? Battery technology does not follow Moore's law.

Well it has been almost a year now since we were blown away by the first demos of the Vulcan Flipstart. Still no actual product. I am now convinced it was a hoax.

Look how many years it took for the OQO to finally materialize. You never know, the Vulcan might come out some day .
