"Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Galp Energia CEO António Mexia, and TMN CEO Iriarte Esteves today announced plans to deliver Portugual’s first Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone. Microsoft Smartphones are already available in Europe and Asia and this launch represents the first Smartphone in the Portuguese market and the first Smartphone tailored to meet the needs of customers who frequently travel by car.
Portugal's largest mobile operator, TMN, will distribute the Smartphone nationally through their retailers, and by Galp Energia, Portugual's leading oil and gas company, at their M24 convenience stores, petrol stations and retailers this summer.
Of particular interest is GALP’s selection of the Smartphone platform to help deliver a range of services to its customers through an innovative mobile portal. On top of the device's and TMN's applications, key services will include:
i) GALP related services, such as loyalty program information and account services, location-based content and services;
ii) FastAccess powered services, such as driver assistance location-based information (maps, routing, traffic info, POI data base) and auto-related content. Fastaccess, a joint venture of Galp Energia and Brisa (one of the largest private motorway operators in Europe and the leader in the Portuguese market), is the leading Portuguese driver-related and Telematics mobility services provider."
