When I try to install Activesynch at home, i keep getting this message; "Setup could not copy the file 'C:\Documents and settings........\local settings\temp\ixp002.tmp\core\inf\wceusbsh.cat' (copy error -1). Restart your desktop computer and run Setup again." I have tried everything (i can think of) including deleting ixp002.tmp from the folder and reinstalling dell drivers but I cannot get it to work. It works fine at the office. Any suggestions ?

Try the following urls;
delltalk.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=aximactivesync&message.id=2049
www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29478
It did not solve my problem but may solve yours !!

Yes!, it solves my problem too. Just unplug your PDA from the USB port and try again.

I got and solved the same wceusbsh.cat problem by unplugging the USB cable. However, when I plugged it in again, ActiveSync doesn't connect to and can't detect the PDA. Anybody had the same problem?

Sorry to say I have the exact same problem. I can install ActiveSync, it detects my USB connection/cable, but I cannot connect to the PDA

go into windows explorer on PC delete the entire MS active Sync folder..re boot PC..it will ask you for the windows Office cd if you have office installed as it needs the "corrupted" file on poutlook which is in the startup folder of PDA...then install AS and do a soft-reset on PDA and go back to AS and set up your partnership as before..this usually happens if you had recently un-installed any trial or a regular program and you lose some files....sometimes a back-up file might also have a corrupt file and thats a chance we all take....winxp and win2k are forgiving sometimes...even though we call it plug&play it really is plug&pray!!!.hope this helps you... Many times as a last resort I have had to Hard-Reset my PDA...now that really is a pain and time consuming..but sometimes we have no choice as it gets corrupted so bad, thats the only way out...

Unplug your usb sync device, the installer can't copy the file over with it plugged in.

I had to do the install with the PocketPC disconnected.

Same problem, but as opposed to deleting all of MS Active sync after doing the reinstall, I just did a soft reset on my PDA and reestablished the "partnership". Everthing worked fine

THIS one is THE way to go.....
You should be working at microsoft! I can't believe they put this out like this!
OK - I should
It's not like it's a well hidden defect - screw calling it a bug.
Thanks for the simplest of solutions!

Unplugging it also worked for me, thanks for the suggestion. Was getting a little worried for a few seconds there.
