iPad Case Review: SGP Leinwand Leather Case
Editor's Ratings (1-5): 3
What's Hot: Sleek and simple, unsewn and handmade with full grain genuine leather.
What's Not: Provides protection against dust and scratches but not against drops and minor accidents.
SGP leather cases for the iPad 2 come in many series that have different designs from slim Leinwand leather case to travel style bag Dresden Klause 9i with a shoulder strap. The Leinwand series comes in five colors including Black (reviewed here), Vintage Brown, Sherbet Pink, Dante Red and Tender Blue. The case is slim and light yet protective of your Apple tablet.
Design
The SGP Leinwand Case for the iPad 2 is a handmade product, made of full grain genuine leather exterior and a soft micro fiber Chamude interior. The case is one of the thinnest on the market, similar to Apple's Smart Cover but has a back cover that has inserts to provide extra protection. The fit is snug and the edges cup over the iPad 2 for a tight hold on the device. The case weighs in at about a pound.
Features
There are clean cut-outs for the back camera lens, speaker, audio-jack, volume rocker and the rotation lock. The product is not sewn and has no stitching. The front cover features three column folds which facilitate four angular levels of varied heights for watching movies, using apps and games or propping up for customized typing angles. The Chamude interior helps protect the screen from dust and minor scratches. We've seen other leather cases where the micro fiber fabric left traces of dust particles every time and you'd end up wiping off the screen before using it. The Leinwand leaves no traces and opens up to a clean screen. The SGP Leinwand also comes with embedded magnetic strips to activate the iPad's cover lock/unlock functionality.
Conclusion
The SGP Leinwand Leather Case is best suited for users looking for a case that is stylish, smart and professional, while facilitating maximum iPad functionality usage. The case doesn't cover or block any of the iPad buttons, lens or ports and the edges are rounded out for a smooth, clean feel.
While the thinness may appeal to those looking for slender compactness in their cases and protection from dust, the case isn't sturdy enough to protect your iPad from a drop, fall or minor accident.
