What's Not: Nothing

The Striiv Personal Trainer is an electronic pedometer that accurately captures your daily activity and displays it in meaningful and motivating ways. Its 3D accelerometer and precision altimeter means it can capture and log just about everything you do.

The Striiv is about the size of a pager (remember those?). At 2.75" x 1.7 x 0.5, it's small enough to drop it in your pocket/purse or unobtrusively clip it to your clothing. It's also light enough (1.4 oz.) that it isn't bothersome if you want to run with it (yes, I've tried).

Features and Quality

While the Striiv is tiny and light, is packs a surprising amount of technological punch. A 2" color touch screen (320 x 240) gives you all the feedback you could possibly want, and the interface is so straightforward that most people won't need a manual to learn it. Once you input your physical information, you are off and running, walking, and stair climbing. The 500 mHz CPU, 3D accelerometer, and altimeter combine to make a surprisingly accurate and effortless device, and they do this seamlessly in the background to determine whether you are walking, running, climbing stairs, or a combination of all three. After the initial setup, simply power it on and take it with you wherever you go.

While reviewing the Striiv, I took it running with me every day and it was accurate within a few hundredths of a mile of my GPS enabled iPhone, which surprised the heck out of me. I also very much enjoyed earning achievements throughout the week such as running across the Golden Gate Bridge and climbing Mount Fuji. For the younger crowd, there is even a built-in exercise based game to help get them off the couch.

While there are many ways to track a dedicated exercise session, it is extremely difficult to quantify daily activities such as chasing your kids around the park, mowing the lawn, and doing laundry. This is where Striiv really shines. If you are a primary caregiver and have always wondered why you were so tired after a full day with the kids, Striiv will give you some hard data, and may help to quiet that nagging voice telling you that you don't get enough exercise (whether that voice is yours or somebody else's).

The Striiv is an electronic pedometer that actually delivers the goods. Not only is it accurate, and feature rich, just taking it with you is incredibly motivating as you will finally get credit for taking the stairs or walking to lunch.
