Microsoft's first tablet is something like the iPad: you're probably wearing a tech-repelling tinfoil hat if you haven't heard about it. The Surface RT runs Windows 8 RT with the Modern UI and Live Tiles as well as traditional desktop view. It has a striking 10.6", 1366 x 768 display with wide viewing angles and 5 points of multi-touch goodness. The 1.5 pound tablet is modern and chic looking with a high quality vapor magnesium casing and crisp lines, yet it feels and is very durable.
The optional but highly recommended Touch Cover is available as a bundle with the tablet if you don't mind a black keyboard rather than the wildly energetic alternatives like magenta and cyan. It's a 3mm thin smart cover and a keyboard that works uncannily well. It goes with this tablet's dual nature: part multimedia and rich content consumption while also offering stronger productivity skills than other tablets thanks to the included MS Office 2013 RT, full Windows Explorer and a USB 2.0 port that supports a healthy range of peripherals.
The Surface RT runs on a 1.4GHz NVidia Tegra 3 quad core CPU with GeForce graphics and it has WiFi, Bluetooth, dual webcams and your choice of 32 or 64 gigs of flash storage plus a micro SDXC slot.
Yes, the app selection is currently smaller than iOS or Android, but the platform is only a week old, and this is Microsoft and Windows: if they can't make the apps come, nobody can.
