Make sure the phone isn't set to use WPA for the WiFi connection.

Look for a checkbox under WiFi network settings labeled 802.1x and make sure it's not checked.

Hi! I just purchased the xv6700. I am really confused about the internet connection. The sales person told me that I should get the data usage package to avoid being charged for going online mistakenly. I know there are two ways to connect to the internet. EDVO and Wifi. Now question is, will I be charged if I use either one of them? EDVO is the internet they provide, and wifi is whatever wireless signal we pickup we can use. Would using wifi be considered data usage? Because i have wireless connection at home, work, and school.

Second question is, if I will be getting charged for going online whether intentionally or unintentionally, is there a way to disable them so that I avoid accidentally signing on? ?

You will not be charged by Verizon for using WiFi.

HELP!!! I am a novice and just bought the XV6700. How in the he-- do I connect to WIFI???
It finds my SSID and says it's available bu t will not connect. I have tried to disable the Data Encryption, no joy and then insert my WEP code and still no joy. When it's on the 'main' page for the wirelesss lan setting it will just scan the network. WHY??
I have verizon FiOS and works just fine on my laptop but not my phone. Can ANYONE help me?!?!?

I'm having this very same issue. I've gone over my network with a fine tooth comb and everything is setup correctly. My phone sees the network, but it won't connect to it. It's like it times out before my router can hand out an IP address and goes on to one of the other 5 access points around me. It also tries to connect to my work network, that is no where near me and shouldn't see it at all. I've tried it with and without security features enabled. It will connect to my work network in a matter of seconds. Is this perhaps a router issue? Is it just slow and cheap or what? Any information on this problem would be helpful. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution. In fact, it took me 3 days to find someone having the same issue. I love the rest of the phone, but it will make my life A LOT easier and a little cheaper to have it connect to my WiFi at home and at work.

Thanks,

Dippy

P.S. I got it to connect to my home network once. I did a soft reset when trying to figure out what was going on and it got stuck trying to connect to my home network until finally it did (it took it like 3 minutes). I have not been able to get it to stick again for the life of me.

mhang,

If you are connected to a wireless network the phone will automatically use it instead of EVDO. To be sure that you're not using it go to: Start/Settings/Connections/Connections. Then tap on advanced/select networks. In the drop down boxes select connections that you don't have configured.

Hope this helps.

I am considering moving up from my motorola E815 to a phone like the xv6700....I need to stay with Verizon...I want fast EVDO type connectivity for my laptop and would like the phone to be the bridge, rather than getting a separate card....From time to time I need to review emergent medical CAT scans and I think this would be a good solution, also my business group wants to be able to send me 'push e-mail'
Does the registry edit allow the phone to function in EVDO while WiFi is active? Plainly asked, can the phone be a truly wireless access point to the net for my laptop? If not, can another phone function in this manner?
Aside from my business group, I am Mac-based....is there a better phone for me to work with?
Will the XV6700 integrate automatically with calendaring functions from a Microsoft server?
Thank You for Your time and consideration of these issues

Verizon and UTStarcom issued an update in July 2006 that allowed simultaneous use of the phone and WiFi. Phones sold after that date have the update already installed. So you don't need to edit the registry anymore .

If you want to sync with your Mac, you'll need Missing Sync from markspace.com (PPC-Mac syncing software). The EVDO Treo 700p syncs to both Mac and Windows, but sadly it lacks WiFi. So the XV6700 sounds like a better bet for your needs.

The phone will sync with Exchange for such things as calendar and contacts, yes.

I need some help as to how to get ringtones on my XV6700. Also I was to understand that the phone had a flash with the camera. I cannot get this to work either... Thank you for any help...

Thanks for the great review!

I am trying to synk my XV6700 with AOL and Outlook 2003. I can get most everything to work except for the following:
1. e-mails that are sent to the AOL/Spam folder on my PC do not show up in the AOL/Spam folder on the XV6700.
2. Likewise, e-mails that are sent to the AOL/Sent Items folder on my PC do not show up in the AOL/Sent Items folder on the XV6700.
3. The biggest issue I have is that when I delete e-mails on the XV6700 they are not deleted on either AOL or Outlook on my PC. Consequently, I must sort through these e-mails again and delete them from AOL on my PC. The tec at Verizon told me that this is because the e-mail that is sent to the XV6700 is a copy of the original e-mail on AOL. So when I delete the copy on the XV6700 the original is not deleted on AOL.

Can anyone help?

I have tried both Active Sync and Wireless Sync.

According to AOL's web site, PC Monitor will not help because "IMAP email accounts are not supportd in this configuration."

Thanks,

Steve
