Give me the Good and the Bad. Which would you buy and why? Will the Handspring open attachments, like the Blackberry 7280? The Blackberry advises you of new email via PUSH technology. Does the Handspring do this or do you have to tell it to check for new mail? Are both capable of opening Excel, Word, & Powerpoint documents? Thanks in advance for your help.

Both are capable of working with MS Office attachments.
The Treo doesn't natively support push email but check out Good Technologies client to add that kind of functionality.
The Blackberry is more of a phone and messaging device, while the Treo 600 offers more functionality being a full-fledged Palm OS PDA. There are lots of apps out there for Palm OS and several different MS Office packages for Palm with Documents To Go being the most popular.
