I have been using a Handspring Deluxe for the last 4 or 5 years. Main use is Ebooks via CSpotRun, SMS, calendar, phone book, a few games such as Bejeweled and some word/excel editing using Dataviz. Also Avantgo. I'm trying to decide between a T3 or the Sony TH55. The pros for the T3 as far as I can see: - SD memory - same as my camera landscape option - could be useful for ebooks and editing docs & spreadsheets loads of accessories - like to use a fold up keyboard.
Pros for the TH55: - Has 802.11 wi-fi as well as bluetooth Better battery life camera - although I won't be using this a huge amount, you never know when you need one!
I need some clarification on a couple of points.
I don't have a wi-fi card in my home PC. Would fitting one enable syncing and web surfing to be done through my PC's internet connection? I haven't got broadband yet but as soon as the exchange is done I'll get that straightaway.
Is wi-fi going to be of use without broadband? I don't spend much time in coffee shops where I could use wi-fi - too busy trying to earn a living
I have a bluetooth phone so they could both be used with that - no problem.
I want to use the new PDA for listening to music. Do they both play MP3's from the memory card? Either of them have the edge on sound quality?
I would like to be able to record voice memos from meetings - any difference in the quality and length that can be recorded?
Final point - honest! I will be adding on a bluetooth GPS navigation system. Is either the T3 of TH55 better with GPS? Would the landscape T3 be easier to see? Or would there be no difference? Which would be easier to mount?
I hope that I'm not asking too many basic questions and that someone out there can help me. Incidentally, I'm in the UK and the best prices I've seen are ?233 for the T3 and ?270 for the TH55 so the price differential isn't huge.
The Tungsten T3 and TH55 are clear competitors since both are slate design Palm OS 5 devices with 320 x 480 displays. While selecting a PDA is a matter of personal choice, we'll outline some of the salient features which may help you select a model.
Pro TH55: The TH55 has a lot of popular and sexy features such as the integrated VGA digicam and WiFi, while the Tungsten T3 has neither. Let's face it: most of us don't need a camera, but it's really fun and handy for capturing special moments. WiFi is ever-popular in the US, so if you have a WiFi access point at home/work or want to surf from the airport or your local Starbucks, the TH55 is the way to go. Battery life is quite good, beating the T3. While both units have an MP3 player, the TH55 sounds a bit better and louder.
Pro T3: The T3 does have Bluetooth, which is perfect if you want to access the Net using a Bluetooth mobile phone rather than via WiFi. The T3's screen is brighter and supports both portrait and landscape orientations. If you're a gamer or just crave serious power, the T3 is your model: the 400 MHz processor and 52 megs of available RAM make it a top performer. The d-pad and button arrangement are great for gaming. When closed, the T3 is smaller than the TH55. The T3 has Java support."
From personal experience, I actually don't use the landscape mode to view maps on my T|3 because many maps/routes are designed for the portrait mode. I think it will all come down to whether you want WiFi+camera+better sound and battery (TH55) or BT+faster processor+more RAM (T|3).
