text messaging with a PDA
      #12296 - 06/19/04 03:49 PM

I am thinking of buying a PDA but I do not know that much about them. I would like one where I could text message my friends. Do they make PDA's with this ability?

Ya, I was hoping that they made PDA's with this ability. I do not know a whole lot so I might be way off here. Thanks for your help.

you can text message to any user that has an email address. For example yahoo,MSN and a few others thru the users respective carriers offer such a plan. You might want to check the Sprint,Verizon and T-Mobile wireless web sites.I used to do that when I had a Jornada Pocket PC with a wireless modem.

The T-mobile sidekick (a.k.a. Danger Hiptop) is a text pager (via email or IM), phone, and has limited PIM features (calendar, to-do, etc.). HOWEVER, it is not really a PDA, in the sense that you cannot add any software to it, you cannot create any kind of documents with it.

if only we could merge the text pager bit with the pda bit, i would be so happy! alas. (blackberry devices have this problem too -- great pager/email access, but not good as a laptop/notebook replacement that can handle software, documents, etc.) i will probably get a separate text pager and separate pda. Still leaning toward a PDA with the largest screen and best screen resolution (VGA would be nice).
