What should I buy? Help, many thanks.

Hi, good night.
I don't know wich of this PDA's I could buy : Sony CLIE PEG TJ27, Sony CLIE PEG-TJ35, PALM ZIRE 72.
The two Sony's cost me almost the same prize, and the Palm costs a bit more. I'm going to use it principally to work with word documents, so the screen is very important (bright, size, color...) and the battery. The camera is not important, neither the MP3, but if come with it... The size is very similar in any of them, although the smaller the better. Any help will be hugely useful. Thank you.

The Zire 71 has a brighter screen than the two Clies you're considering.

Ok, many thanks.
I think you mean the Zire 72.
Can you tell me anything else? Only the screen is better? I'm also beginning to consider pocket pc's, iPaq, they have replaceable batteries and larger screens. Thank you for the info

Yep, Zire 72 . The Zire 71 has a brighter screen that those Clies too.
That would be the biggest thing in favor of the Zire 72. The Zire 72 also has Bluetooth if that's of interest to you.

Pocket PCs generally have lower resolution screens: 240 x 320 pixels, while the Clies and Zire 72 have 320 x 320 pixel displays.

Don't forget that Sony abandoned the market outside of Asia and closed its software developers' forum to further membership. If you buy a Sony, your accessories will be orphans when you later upgrade to something else.

What should I buy? I'd buy the Sony! - I am a Zire 72 Owner! [Re: Slaine]

Hi,
I recently purchased a Zire 72 and it hasn't been without a bowlfull of problems.

1. Blue finish is peeling and flecking off. Palm says they are aware of this and it should be solved.
2. High pitched hiss when on.
3. Fatal exceptions; at random times and during random functions.
4. Customer service, yes they are polite, has been lackluster. It took an act of Congress to get my unit in for repairs/replacement! As of 7/27/04 the unit is still back in the repair facility; right at a week now. I called yesterday to check on the status, and after they got all the tracking numbers, they told me to call back once I shipped the unit! I pleasantly reminded them that THEY HAVE THE UNIT. Heck, I shouldn't excpect much more given the fact their emails have my name wrong half of the time. Don't ask me how that can happen.

I'll chalk the bad unit I got up to a lemon that got through; no big deal. I can live with that. But, when it needs repair or replacement I shouldn't have to feel as if I'm pulling teeth just to get adequate service!

At this point in the game, I'd personally buy Sony. I don't think I could recommend, nor buy, a PalmOne product with a clear conscience.

Hey, whatever you buy have fun doing the research and I wish you the best!

rb
