Need GPS-PDA for the outdoors - park ranger type job
      #14818 - 08/26/04 09:16 PM

I need some help with the question of whether to settle on the few choices of combined pda and gps intergrated units or select a better quality pda and a gps card. Are the add-on gps cards accurate enough? I was looking at the new dell x30 with an adding gps capabilities. Not sure what I need. I don't really care about navigating streets, I work in the woods and sometimes dense woods. Can somebody please help me make a decision.

The add-on GPS units are no less accurate than those that are permanantly integrated into the unit. The challenge is that you won't generally find maps of parks and wilderness in the software that comes bundled with PDA GPS devices and add-ons. If the folks you work for have maps, or you can make your own, then you're set. Otherwise, you might want to get one of those handheld sports/hiking GPS.
